Stanley Rangers 36 v Egremont Rangers 4
16.02.08

In this mid-table clash, it was Stanley Rangers who took the upper hand and came out 36-4 winners.

Stanley never looked like losing this home fixture with scrum-half Gareth Whitehead on hat-trick form. Stanley started the scoring with a seven minute try from Whitehead which he converted. At 20 minutes Whitehead again scored and converted his second try. Egremont's Mally Caton was leading their resistance with Peter Bewsher and Warren Stainton giving good support but Stanley's strong defence stood up to the pressure, fullback Chris Walker and second rows Chris Nichol and Simon Carr standing out. Richard Cattley, Stanley's centre, crossed for the third home try and on the 40th minute Egremont's Scott Robson scored a try, bringing the half time score to 18-4.

In the second half, John Nunns scored a fine try, goaled by Whitehead on the 52 minute and five minutes later, Whitehead completed his hat-trick and added the extras before substitute David Brown completed the Stanley score with their sixth try. Whitehead added the goal making the final score 36-4.

Stanley Rangers: T - Whitehead (3), Cattley, Nunns, Brown. G - Whitehead 6.
