In the first game of their new season in Division Two of the National Conference League, Stanley Rangers beat Ovenden 20-18 in a closely-fought match.

Richard Cattley scored two tries and his second try, on the hour, helped retrieve the lead after Ovenden had gone 12-8 ahead with tries from Wes McGibbon, converted by Hartley, and Brett Durkin, also converted by Chris Hartley. Danny Grice, who converted Cattley's try, also added the extras to Danny Duce's try ten minutes from time. That fourth goal was needed as the Halifax side replied with a try and conversion by stand-off Hartley.In a closely-fought encounter however it was Stanley who took the spoils.

Stanley's Richard Cattley, for his two tries and massive tackling effort, was awarded the Man of the Match award by Kevin Ward at the clubhouse.
