Under 11s Wildcats Match Reports, 2007-8

Stanley Rangers U11s Wildcats v Featherstone Lions U11s
20.10.07

Yet another very tough encounter this week against a very strong well drilled Featherstone Lions side and it was almost identical to last week against Whinmoor. Again the Wildcats started slowly but did test out the Lions defence for the first 10 minutes. It was the Lions that drew first blood however with a try slightly against the run of play after some poor defence from the Wildcats and a strong run from the Lions number 10. This gave the Lions some confidence and strong running, good passing and some good kicking gave them good position which they took advantage of and added a second try. This left the Wildcats two tries down at the half time break.

After a good strong team talk at half time it was the Wildcats that started quicker and a barnstroming 60 metre charge from forward Ben Fisher got the Wildcats on the score board. Dom Dorgan added the conversion. This lifted the Wildcats and the Lions were well on the back foot. Again impressive strong running saw the Wuildcats add another try this time from Rachel Proctor and again the conversion was added. The Wildcats were really rampant at this stage and the Lions had no answer to the fierce defence and strong running from the Wildcats forwards. To top the game off Ben Fisher added another try after yet another strong run punching holes in the Lions defence. In the last 10 minutes the Lions did rally but brilliant defence from the Wildcats kept a strong Lions team scoreless in the second half giving the Wildcats another victory.

This has maintained a 100% record in competitive games form the very first game almost 18 months ago and they are playing against much stronger opposition this season. The second half perfomance was most probably the best half seen from the Wildcats and again they showed fantstic spirit, hard work and team work......the key to this Wildcats side. Man of the Match awards wentr to Ben Fisher and Rachel Proctor with the magic moment award going to Tom Shippen for an excellent crunching tackle towards the end of the game. A most enjoyable game and just a mention to the parents of both the Wildcats and the Rangers for some fantstic support.
