Under 11s Wildcats Mid-Season Report A good opening to the season saw the the Wildcats U11`s beat Walton Warriors, a league higher than the Wildcats, in a pre season friendly at Walton in what was a taster of the coming season as they went on to preserve their 100% record for both the season and since inception. There were two very hard games with 2 fantastic comebacks against Whinmoor and Featherstone Lions, both from seemingly certain defeat. There was also an outstanding effort, with only 9 players available, at Hunslet Parkside with the Wildcats digging deep to record a very impressive victory to overcome the odds. Two close games were also played out against old foes Stanningley with another excellent victory at home after again coming close to a defeat. Headingley Hawks really tested the Wildcats, the first meeting of both teams, with again the Wildcats coming out on top in the end. After a comfortable victory in the opening league fixture there was a big difference in the Crigglestone All Blacks team and they again tested the Wildcats with a particularly outstanding defensive effort from the Wildcats in the first 15 minutes of the game. The only other opposition was from a big Wibsey side that didn't really use this to their advantage with 2 comfortable victories. The final game of the season was scheduled to be played at Featherstone Lions with a tough encounter expected against a Fev side only beaten once, by the Wildcats, but the weather intervened and the game was abandoned after only 10 minutes with some atrocious weather making a flowing game almost impossible. The score at the time was 10-6 in favour of the lions and 2 very close games are expected in the second half of the season. Finally I would like to say, on behalf of myself and Kevin, a massive thank you and well done to the whole squad for an outstanding effort in both training and on match day as you have all been a credit to yourselves, your parents and to Stanley Rangers. A special mention must also go to the parents who turn up week in week out to help and support the team because without you there would be no kids to play the game. Have a fantastic christmas and new year and we look forward to seeing you back in training on January 15th. |
