Stanley Rangers U14s travelled to York Acorn for their 2nd league game.
Rangers started well straight from the kick off and lead by some aggressive tackling from Hopkinson and Ben Bradbury forced a knock=on 20m out. An organised move off the back of the scrum saw Bradbury power over under the posts, converted by Harrison Talbot - 0-6. That try seemed to wake Acorn up and soon after their scrum half breezed through a gap to score and level from out wide - 6-6. Both defences then dominated most of the 1st half, until another break from York saw them take a 12-6 lead. Stanley regrouped and led by Harnetty and the impressive hooker Dan Gilfeather worked there way down the field with good powerful runs from Kelly, Kay, Bradbury, Hopkinson and Blake Medlock, some explosive footwork and an impossible offload by Clay Harnetty saw Gilfeather cruise in for his 1st, 12-12 at the break,
Stanley picked up 3 injuries, weakening their interchange options and having to reshuffle after losing props Kelly, Bradbury and half back Danny Earnshaw. The 2nd half started badly for the lads in red and black, conceding 3 quick scores which meant the hosts lead 30-12. Stanley then hit back through hooker Dan Gilfeather to make it 30-18 after Talbot converted. Stanley again switched off in defence and a further 2 unconverted tries by the hosts made it 38-18. Stanley didn't give the game up and some quick play from Harnetty, Roberts and Rogerson moved Stanley close to the Acorn line. The Yorks defence held firm but Stanley kept applying pressure and an electric run by Joel Kay beating 7 defenders and scoring under the posts was again converted by Harrison Talbot. This proved to be the final act of the game - Stanley going down 38-24.
Dan Gilfeather picked up the Man of the Match award.
