Illingworth 20 v Stanley Rangers 18 Stanley Rangers were closely beaten by Illingworth 18-20 in the first round of the Powergen Challenge Cup. In a tight first half, Stanley took the lead 8-4 with a Mark Robinson try converted by Gareth Whitehead who added a further two points from a penalty. Illingworth's unconverted try came from Paul Carter. After the break Carter went over for his second try which was converted allowing Illingworth to take the lead. The Halifax side increased their lead with a Williams try, converted by Roberts but Stanley fought back with Gareth Whitehead scoring a try in the last ten minutes followed by a Steve Scholey try converted by Whitehead. However Illingworth hung on to their slender lead and took the game 20-18. |
