Open Age Match Reports, 2004-5 Queens 18 vs Stanley Rangers 18 Battling Stanley Rangers earned a point from a tough trip to Leeds with an 18 all draw against Queens. After an early converted try by Queens, Stanley scored their first points with a Gareth Whitehead penalty. Then Rangers took the lead through Gareth Dobson following some swift movement and Whitehead added the goal. Queens responded with a try in the corner and then extended their lead with a penalty. Early in the second half Queens added a try to open up a ten point lead but Rangers hit back as a long pass from Whitehead caught the home defence napping and winger James Robins touched down in the corner. The try was unconverted. Stanley kept their discipline and Jon Cooper superbly supported another swift move to break through and score with Whitehead's conversion levelling the score. Both sides had a player sin-binned as tempers became frayed and the referee blew for time with the points being shared. Simon Carr was named Man of the Match, with Craig Taylor second and Gareth Dobson and Jimmy Turner sharing third place. |
