Open Age Match Reports, 2004-5 Stanley Rangers 34 v Siddal 6 (3rd round Yorkshire Cup) A strong first half performance by Stanley was enough to progress the club to the fourth round of the Yorkshire Cup, despite a second half fight back from the visitors. With a 30-0 first half lead, Stanley's forwards paved the way towards their ultimate win. After two minutes, Jon Cooper scored the opening try. Soon after a swift passing move say Graham Stanley cross to increase the lead before Gareth Whitehead broke through to feed Stanley for his second try, Whitehead converting it. Siddal fought back but Stanley's bigger pack showed their class. Cooper broke and supplied the supporting Whitehead to score and convert his own try. A further try from James Howcroft converted by Whitehead added to the Stanley score, followed by a try from Stuart Godfrey. Siddal scored early in the second half and this spurred them on. However Stanley's James Robbins touched down in the corner to complete the scoring. Simon Carr was named as Man of the Match. Stanley face Elland, the current holders, in the fourth round. |
