Match Report by Mark Talbot, Coach:
"So tonight our Under14's played in their 1st ever Wakefield Cup
game. We were drawn away at Sharlston Rovers, 2 divisions above us, on
a hot Tuesday night in June.
The lads turned up in the right frame of mind "the pressure is on
Sharlston to win this, let's just go out and show them what we are
capable of" and the lads didn't disappoint. From the kick of we were
containing Sharlston, even forcing errors.
We were running strong, and tackling hard, we definitely stunned the
home team. 70% of the first half was played in Sharlston's half. We
had them on the back foot and were bouncing with enthusiasm.
Sharlston scored twice in the 1st half and converted one making it 10
- 0 at half time.
The lads were really encouraging in the team talk, and came out in
the 2nd half with the same positive attitude, and it wasn't long
before it showed. 2 try's quite close together from Stanley, and it
was 10-8.
The opposition were stunned and were arguing with each other.
It stayed close for what seemed like an age, but with injuries taking
their toll, and lads needing to play out of position, and tiredness
creeping in Sharlston managed to pull away and the final score was
24-8.
The team bond and willingness to work for each other really showed
tonight. We went into this game with no expectations, just a belief
that we know we can play good rugby, and after this performance
against a side 2 divisions above us, just shows how far we have come,
and how proud we all are.
It really was a wonderful game to watch, and an all round team
performance, from every player on the field, the injured players that
still travelled to the game, our team officials and of course our
travelling supporters."
