This was a very successful season for the
lads as our main goal that was set out at the start of the
season was to win the league. This we achieved by only losing
1 game early on in the campaign to Wibsey. Throughout the
season we competed well in all games playing a total of 23
games in all competitions and losing only 5 games. We reached
the final of the Wakefield cup losing to Normanton, we reached
the semi final of the Yorkshire cup losing to Hunslet Parkside
16-4, we also reached the play-offs losing to Heworth. One
of the highlights of the season from my point of view was
playing West Hull away in the League cup losing 22-4. This
was a game where through injuries we could only field 13 players
against a very good premier league side. We held West Hull
to 4-4 at half time and we were playing well, West Hull brought
on a couple of subs at half time and within 5 minutes of the
restart had scored 3 quick tries to put them 22-4 in the lead,
the lads then really dug deep and despite these quick tries
stuck to their guns to quell any more West Hull attack to
keep the scoreline at 22-4.
Our league performances were excellent and to come through
the season losing only one game was a big achievement for
the lads and also for us the coaching team. All season the
lads have trained hard under the expert coaching skills of
Warren Jowitt the ex Bradford and Wakefield forward and now
at Hull FC who should take good heart from the way he turned
the side around, Warren was helped out on the training field
by Lee Parker and myself with a lot of credit going to Dicky's
Gym in Batley for helping get the lads get into shape during
the close season and keeping them in trim while the season
went on.
On a look back at the season I can only say that there are
good things still to come from these lads and one thing that
has come out of the season is the signing of Adam Robinson
and Scott Childs by the Wakefield Wildcats and from all the
lads and coaching staff we wish the every success.
On a final note the coaching staff and the lads would like
to thank Sue Percival for all her hard work as our administrator.
