Match Report
STANLEY
4 WEST HULL 24
26th January 2003
League
Cup Second Round
Stanley Rangers
U16's showed their full colours
in this league cup second round
fixture away to West Hull. With
this looking to be a daunting fixture
away to premiership opposition.
1st division Stanley who were decimated
with injuries and sickness fought
hard and were found to be worthy
opposition for West Hull. In the
first half Stanley opened the scoring
with a well worked move going through
several pairs of hand ending in
a good break for Scott Child who
passed on to support from Danny
Wray who scored a fine try. West
Hull countered almost immediately
with a try to give a half time score
of 4 points each. Throughout the
first half Stanley took the ball
to West Hull with Robinson, Grice,
Silkstone Haigh, and Gant all exceptional
in both attack and defence. In the
second half the lack of any substitutions
seemed to affect Stanley at the
start and with West Hull making
3 changes their fresh legs helped
them score 3 quick fire tries before
Stanley could get their hands on
the ball. Stanley then regrouped
and with their defence and attack
going from strength to strength
they managed to regain composure
and pressed West Hull all the way
to the final whistle and with some
superb defence from Ledgeway, Gant,
Crawley, and top tackler Robinson
they managed to keep West Hull from
scoring any more points ending in
a final score of 22-4 to West Hull.
Evan through their tiredness Stanley
kept pressure on West Hull and when
in attack always looked threatening
culminating in 2 tries being discounted
for a knock on and held up over
the line. Coaches Jowett, Grice
and Parker were highly delighted
with their players for the effort
they put in especially with all
players having to play the full
game and awarded the man of the
match award to Danny Silkstone with
Wildey and Gant pushing him all
the way.
Stanley hope their injuries and
sickness subside so that they are
at full strength for this weeks
league fixture away to Featherstone
Lions.
