Open Age Presentation Evening
18.04.09
Stanley Rangers Open Age teams celebrated the 2008-2009 season with their Presentation Evening at the clubhouse. Gary Lord came to Presentation night to help Stuart Godfrey (new coach) and Andy Rice (Assistant coach) hand out the trophies. Simon Senkiw (assistant coach) announced his retirement from coaching on the night.
Player of the Year went to James Howcroft. His name will be added to the trophy so it can go on display in the clubhouse. It was decided this year to have a board made that would hang permanently in the clubhouse, and it will list all Players of the Year. It was agreed to start it from last year, so Gareth Whitehead's name will go on from last season. It was presented to James by Stuart Godfrey.
Second Player of the Year was Matty Firth, but he was unable to attend on the evening. Chris Molyneaux collected his trophy for him. It was presented by Gary Lord.
Craig Rhodes got 3rd Player of the Year. Simon Senkiw presented trophy.
Because the second team only had a very short season it was decide to give out 'joke' trophies. David Brown got one to commemorate a hat trick he scored, Gareth Rawlinson got one to commemorate a memorable try he scored, and Craig Rhodes got one for managing to play for a whole 80 minutes!!!
The other awards given on the night were the coaches award, and the players player. Both these awards went to the same player, but neither knew who had got the awards.
The coaches give their award to some one who has given their all all season. Someone who not only turns up every week to play, but to train as well. Someone who gives 100% in what ever they are doing.
The players player is voted for by all the players. This year the vote was very close between a number of players.
Jamie Gollings is the player who received both trophies. The trophies were presented by Andy Rice and Stuart Godfrey.
