East Leeds 8 v Stanley Rangers 8
26.09.09
After the free-scoring of the last three matches Stanley Rangers were held to a draw by East Leeds at 8-all.
The home side scored first, when in the 10th minute Ryan Lilleywhite latched on to Corbett's chip over the defence to score, too wide out for Steve Parnell to goal. After a spell of considerable pressure, Stanley's loose-forward Richard Cattley forced his way over. Stand-off Kevin King added the extras to snatch a 6-4 lead at the interval.
Playing into a strong wind, East Leeds again stunned Stanley when Tim Norfolk put winger Jason Priestley in at the corner but with Parnell off injured, Corbett's attempted conversion drifted wide of the posts.
Defending valiantly, East Leeds were hanging on for a famous victory, but on the 72nd minute Kevin King levelled the score with a penalty. East's Carter twice put late drop goal attempts wide and Corbett missed a last-minute penalty, making the final result an 8-all draw.
Next week, Stanley Rangers are at home to Eccles.
