Oldham St Annes 24 v Stanley Rangers 12
09.10.09
Oldham St Annes ended Stanley's unbeaten this season beating them 24-2 and becoming top of Dvision Two.
Stanley took the lead in the first minute when after forcing a goal-line drop out from the kick off they were awarded a penalty which Kevin King successfully kicked to take a 2-0 lead. However Oldham replied when skipper Kay crossed the whitewash. Five minutes later, Kay scored his second which Lancashire converted to give the hosts a 10-2 lead at half time.
After the break Stanley's Richard Cattley spotted a gap and scored a try. Then David Baxby gathered up a chip over by Gareth Whitehead to send Danny Duce racing in at the corner. A King touchline goal gave Rangers a 12-10 lead.
By the end of the third quarter, Stanley kept the pressure on but a stray pass fell into the hands of Oldham's sub John Gillam who raced 70 metres to score under the posts, leaving Lancashire with an easy conversion. He then added a 70th minute penalty for an 18-12 lead. Two minutes later saw Oldham complete their score with a try from Cookson converted by Lancashire.
This coming weekend Stanley Rangers are at home to Castleford Llock Lane.
