Rangers were not able to overcome a determined Waterhead side who came out unpredicted winners 21-14.

Waterhead began brightly with a second-minute try from Bland, converted by Fitzgerald. The Oldham side then scored on 20 minutes with a Wyatt interception, goaled by Sean Garrett. A further try from Collins, with Garrett adding the extras saw Waterhead with an 18 point lead. Rangers pulled back with a Gareth Whitehead try and conversion to go into the break trailing 6-18.

After the interval, Fitzgerald increased the home side's lead with a penalty goal before Stanley fought back with tries from substitute Damian Thomas and loose forward James Gollings. This closed the gap to one converted score but it was a 77th minute drop goal from Waterhead's Fitzgerald that gave them their final winning score of 21-14.
