Stanley began this cup tie with a strong first half, taking a first minute lead with a try from Joel Martin. Fine work from Rangers' Danny Sampson, Gareth Whitehead and Danny Grice kept Stanley moving forward and a 19-minute try from Sampson, goaled by Grice, followed by a third try from Whitehead, converted by Grice gave the hosts a 16-0 lead. Lock Lane's Tomlinson crossed the line and the two points were added by Booth which gave Rangers a 16-6 lead at half time.
The visitors came out strongly after the interval, however, and prop Craig Jones scored in the 45th minute. On the hour, winger Craig Duncan went over in the corner and Hardy converted it to make the scores equal. it was all to play for and it was Lock Lane who added two points with a penalty from Hardy to take the game and move on to the third round of the Cup.
This coming weekend, Stanley have a home game against Castleford Panthers.
