Stanley Rangers 30 v Normanton Knights 12
22.01.11
Rangers moved into second place, following an impressive derby against neighbours Normanton Knights.
With hooker Matty Firth on top form, Rangers opened the scoring in the 12th minute when stand-off Danny Grice cut through for a try that he then goaled. Normanton hit back when centre Simon Hill swept in and Jacob Crossland converted, only for the home side to score almost immediately from the restart when prop Craig Rhodes crashed over and Gareth Whitehead converted.
Whitehead then grabbed a try of his own before a Kevin King touchdown gave the home side a 22-6 interval lead that they did not intend to surrender.
The Knights made a spirited start after half time, with stand-off Johnny Kirk going in for a try of his own, converted by Crossland. However a Whitehead penalty five minutes from time ended Normanton's comeback hopes and a Firth try on the 79th minute, plus a fourth Whitehead conversion ensured Rangers moving into the promotion place.
