Oldham St Annes 30 v Stanley Rangers 16
18.09.10
Stanley travelled to fellow promoted side Oldham but in a hard-fought game it was the home side who came away winners by 30-16.
Stanley had a good start but spurned two kickable penalty chances in the first five minutes. Then it was Saints who settled down and took the first points from a Kay try, goaled by Lancashire. Three minutes later Saints scored again with a successfully converted try by Rafferty.
Despite the brave efforts of Rangers' matty Firth, Damien Thomas and Kevin King, Oldham added a third try from Cookson and with a Lancashire penalty went in at half time 18-0.
After the restart Rangers were unlucky not to get on the board when Daryl Gaunt failed to collect a chip through by Firth. As it was Saints re-grouped and Kay shot over for his 2nd try, converted by Lancashire.
Rangers got their first score in the 50th minute when Firth regathered his own chip to score in the corner. King then landed a superb touchline conversion.
Oldham added more points with a Lancashire penalty and a try from Harris on the hour. It was then that tempers flared and Parrish and Grice were sin-binned. Oldham then found themselves down to 11 men when White was sin-binned for a professional fouil. Rangers then added further points with tries from Liam Crawley and John Gledhill, with one further King conversion.
This coming weekend, Stanley have a home game against Stanningley.
