Crosfields 32 v Stanley Rangers 24
10.09.11
A strong fightback from Rangers was not quite enough to beat their hosts, Crosfields, and in the end it was the home side who won 32-24.
Crosfields got off to a strong start with an Andy Hibbert try in the fourth minute. Two minutes later, a further try from hooker Danny Abson , goaled by David Rolt, gave them a 10 point lead. Further tries from Boden, Bannon and Wilson gave Crosfields yet further encouragement that they were on track for their first victory of the season. However Stanley dug deep and with veteran Dean Sampson leading the way, Danny Grice and Charlie Ellis both crossed to reduce the gap to 24-10 at half time.
Within three minutes of the restart, Wilson had claimed his second try but again Stanley hammered back at their hosts. Sampson crashed over for a try of his own and then centre Shaun Abson and winger Joel Marsh added tries to reduce the defiicit to six points.
Grice, Adam Gunn and Reece Trout all went close for Stanley but with Crosfield defending strongly they hung on and a last minute Liam Walsh penalty settled the issue.
Crosfields: Tries - Tiebout, Allen, Boden, Bannon, Wilson (2). Goals - Rolf (3), Walsh.
Stanley: Tries - Grice, Ellis, Sampson, Abson, Marsh. Goals - Grice (2).
