Rangers travelled to Hunslet Warriors, champions of Division Two 2010-11 and also top of the interim season's table, but could not take away two points despite a brave come-back.
Warriors took an early lead of 22 points, with tries from Rayner, Cunningham and Mehdi and by half time the score was 22-10 to the home side. Rangers fought back to recover the deficit to be only 22-20 down but Warriors eased away in the closing quarter with tries from Jim Baker, John Dawson, Gary McClelland and a hat-trick from centre Mark Cunningham. McClelland finished with two tries and eight goals.
Rangers' points came from Charlie Ellis, Joel Marsh, Darryl Gant and Danny Grice who also added two goals.
Next weekend (24th) Rangers are at home to Castleford Lock Lane, currently third in the table.
