Stanley Rangers 26 v Castleford Lock Lane 36
03.09.11
A rapid three-try start to the first half gave Lock Lane the edge over Stanley which meant the home side were always chasing the game. In the end despite strong efforts from Rangers with good play from Reece Trout, Danny and Chris Grice, Craig Rhodes and Ross McGretton, it was Lock Lane who came away with the two points.
Strong running from Lane's prop Wayne Hardy lead to hooker Robbie Mawson scoring the first try in the fourth minute, Nathan Fozzard adding the two points. Four minutes later, fullback Adam Garlick crashed over, followed by forward Paul Couch crossing the line, Fozzard again successfully converting the try. This gave the visitors a 16-0 lead in just 11 minutes.
Stanley did not buckle but replied with a try from loose forward Reece Trout, goaled by Danny Grice. Then winger Joel Marsh scored in the corner on the 23rd minute to reduce the gap to 16-10. Lane hit back with a try from Mark Spears but Stanley replied with a Jacky Hogan tried, goaled by Grice. In the last minute of half time, Lane's scrum half Fozzard darted over with a try of his own which he converted, to give the visitors a 26-16 lead at half time.
The start of the second half was to prove crucial and it was Lane who got the early score as Hardy powered over the line, again converted by Fozzard. Stanley hit back with a try from Marsh, only for Couch to get his second try for the visitors. Although Reece Trout grabbed his second try of the match and Danny Grice addede his third goal, it was Lock Lane who finished with a 36-26 win over Stanley.
