In the fifth game of the short season, Widnes West Bank, currently top of Group E, proved too strong for Rangers and won 34-10.
West took the lead on eight minutes when winger Mike Kelly was put over by centre Mark Hardman and Dave Jones added the two points. Three minutes later, Chris Walsh crossed the line to give the hosts a 10 lead. Hooker Evan Simmons claimed the third home try and a further try from Hardman gave West Bank a 22-0 half time lead.
Stanley's Sampson at half back worked hard with Mark Hobson and Craig Rhodes also lively Rangers worked hard but Ryan Bates scored for the Widnes side's fifth try. Rangers' Danny Duce and Kenny Kitchen put points on the board for Stanley with a conversion by Charlie Ellis. Tempers flared and Simmons and John McDermott and both players were sin-binned. West Banks' Josh Sim added a further try to make the final score 34-10.
Rangers take on Normanton Knights at home on Saturday 24th September.
