Leaders Wigan St Judes were pushed all the way by Stanley Rangers winning by a two-point margin, 30-28.
Bottom-of-the-table Wakefield side took on the league leaders and were 18-all at half time.
A try by Rangers' Adam Curtis along with Chris Grice's touchdown and Craig Williamson landing his second goal made for a nail-biting finish with the Saints hanging on for a nervy win. Rangers' other points came from two tries by Richard Cattley, Joel Lord and two goals from Sam Rothery.
Scott Robinson (2), Martin Riley, Paul Pendlebury and Dean Junt crossed for Wigan along with five goals from Gareth Thomas.
This weekend - August 3rd - Rangers are away again to Eccles.
