In a hard-fought Wakefield derby it was Normanton Knights who took the points to take them on to the second round of the National Conference Trophy Round One tie.
The Knights opened strongly with two tries from Burns and Butterfield, both converted, in the first 15 minutes. However, four minutes from the break Rangers replied with quick-fire touchdowns by fullback Joel Marsh and stand-off Liam Crawley, one of which was converted by scrum-half Danny Grice, leaving the half time score at 12-10.
In the second half Rangers pressured Stanley with tries by Mulcahy and two for Burns, completing his hat-trick. Rangers again fought back with loose forward Carl Hughes and wingers Jamie Bell and Jack Shepherd crossing the whitewash, Grice adding two more goals. The score t 30-26, Normanton took a ten-point lead in the last four minutes with a try from Adie Mulcahy and landing his sixth goal and hooker Chris Woolford adding a clinching touchdown in the closing seconds.
