Stanley Rangers 35 v Sharlston Rovers 24
04.03.06
Wakefield and District Brian McDermott Memorial City Plasterers Cup

After trailing 18-8 at half time Stanley Rangers staged an impressive second half rally to win 35-24 over former Premier Division rivals Sharlston Rovers in the quarter-final of the Wakefield & District Brian McDermott Memorial City Plasterers Cup.

Rovers were eight points down after 11 minutes, courtesy of a Simon Carr try and two Gareth Whitehead goals.

But the pendulum seemed to have swung the other way by the break, when Sharlston had gone 18-8 in front with the help of tries for David Lee, Johnny Kirk, Bart Thompsen and Gordon Long, one of which Liam Jarvis improved.

Stanley, however, had other ideas. Whitehead crossed within two minutes of the resumption, goaling his own try, and the home side was 11 points in front by the hour after adding touchdowns for Mark Robinson and Chris Grice plus three goals and a drop goal by Whitehead.

Sharlston again threatened, Lee Bettinson touching down and Jarvis' goal reducing the deficit to five points.

But Rangers were not to be denied and sealed a 35-24 win when Jackie Hogan raced over five minutes from time, Whitehead converting.
