Open Age Match Reports, 2005-6 Upton 20 v Stanley Rangers 26 An evenly-contested clash saw Stanley book their place into round two of the Wakefield City Plasterers Cup at Quarry Lane. After Upton scored a converted try, Stanley restored parity with a Mark Robinson try, converted by Gareth Whitehead. Upton then moved ahead with another converted try, only for Whitehead to make the try of the match after good build-up play from Jacky Hogan, with the conversion levelling the scores. Upton nosed ahead with a penalty, only for Stanley to reply with a try out wide from Hogan, this time with an unsuccessful conversion. An unconverted try from Upton gave them the lead 18-16 but Robinson scored the crucial converted try just before the interval to give Stanley a 22-18 advantage. There were no further tries after the break but two successful penalties from Stanley saw them safely through to the next round of the cup. |
