Open Age Match Reports, 2006-7 Stanley Rangers 11 v East Hull Dragons 12 Stanley Rangers took on East Hull Dragons in the Yorkshire Cup Final, played at the newly named Chris Moyles Stadium, Post Office Road Featherstone on Saturday 23rd December, but just lost 11-12 in the last minute. Stanley were leading 8-0 at half-time, thanks to tries from Jon Cooper after two minutes and winger Carl Clawson, the latter with a length-of-the-field interception just before the half hour. East Hull slowly worked their way back into the game and would have scored but for a mistake from Lee James resulting in three Stanley players keeping him from touching down over the line. In the second half, a series of penalties saw East Hull work their way nearer the line and a penalty from Liam Elvin in the 51st minute got them onto the score board. Dale Blakely then drove over the line and although the try was unconverted it was the Dragons who were now on the attack. However a 65th minute penalty from Gareth Whitehead gave Stanley a four point lead. Hooker Stuart Godfrey thought he had touched down from a Whitehead grubber but referee Wilf George, himself an ex-Halifax player, consulted with his touch judge and disallowed the try. With nine minutes remaining a Danny Grice drop goal gave Stanley a five point lead and the hope of a win. However East Hull Dragons did not give up and a 78 minute try to Dean Cox with a successful conversion from James Ransley swung the balance the Humbersiders way and did not allow enough time for Stanley to get back the points.
