      Oulton Raiders U10s v Stanley Rangers U10s
      14.03.09

Stanley Rangers Under 10s opened the season with a tremendous display of power, speed, skill, effort and determination to blow Oulton Raiders out of the water. The Oulton side have been the team we just have never beaten, and today we showed how well we can play against a quality side like them.

Oulton came with two new transfers, and we came with our 5 new players, Harry Davey, Ryan Bolger, Reece Matysiak, Brandon Hill, and big Sam Tovey, who all to a man excelled, and looked like they had played the game for years.

The game was all about creating a platform for our backs to play, and you couldn't ask for any more than Tommy "steam train" Gant and his partner  up front Reece " big tank" Matysiak to get us going forward.

The game started with a kick off, and big Tommy Gant took the ball on the full, and raced a full 50 metres showing a clean pair of heels to a centre and a winger to score a sensational try, that he was later awarded the parents and coaches Man of the Match award for. The contribution Tommy is now showing is awesome, and his game looks to have risen 50% after having big Reece to help him out up front.

The Magic Moment was just that, a run which captured all our attention with its sheer brilliance. A player can be big, but one who is big, fast, and determined will always take some halting, but big Reece Matysiak thundered down the field with a blistering run knocking off numerous defenders to go 50 yards followed by a quick play the ball, which resulted in a score on the very next play.

The Opposition Man of the Match was awarded to Thomas Sowerby who was simply superb today. Thomas showed his passing skills, kicking skills, and produced 18 tackles too ! Thomas scored a wonderful try off the back of a scrum beating 4 defenders to score. His second was also a beauty too. Thomas also won the top tackler award so well done Tom.

Matty Hobson again produced his usual high level of both performance and consistency with a two try scoring offensive effort, backed up with some wonderful defence and organisation skills.

Jordan O'Neil, Joe Crabtree, Brandon Hill (after a bad knock) and Niall Fitzsimons all backed up from last game with solid performances, with Jordan out enthusing most players.

Harry Smith showed his quality too, he tackled and numbered up well out wide, and looked good, as did Lewis Crowley who showed that his size and power can be devastating if he puts his mind to it.

next week we are  at home to Churwell, and we are looking forward to the continued high level of performance no matter who wins.
