Drighlington U10s v Stanley Rangers U10s
12.09.09
Stanley Rangers Under 10s travelled to Drighlington for their opening fixture in what promised to be a tough encounter.
Stanley looked the hungrier side in the opening exchanges and caused Drig all sorts of problems right from the outset with their impressive forward line of Owen Trout, Decllan Honeyman, Ryan Snowden and Stephen Gibbs providing the platform for Alfie Goddard and Jake Smith to impose themselves on the game. With Ben Green controlling things from hooker it was only a matter of time before the pressure turned into points with Alfie jinking his way past three defenders to open the scoring. Stanley then showed great determination and good organisation to resist any attempts by Drig to level things up, and then almost immediately increased their lead when prop forward Decllan Honeyman burst over from close range. Stanley continued to dominate in attack and defence and Alfie added his second of the game before Drig managed to force their way over from close range right on the stroke of half time.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first with Stanley the dominant side. Some excellent team defending kept Drig at bay and also some great one on one tackles from Ben Green, Alfie Goddard, Liam Brady, Cameron Lees, Jordan Steadman, Brett Miller and Man of Steel Stephen Gibbs. Top tackler Owen Trout added the next try with a strong run and impressive dive to fly over the whitewash! This was quickly followed by Man of the Match Alfie Goddard securing his hat trick. Drig managed to claw one back before the Outstanding Effort winner Ben Green scooted over from close range to bag a well deserved score. Joe Hall and Liam Sawyer put in much improved performances, the latter's second half charge leading to Alfie's third score. Alfie Goddard also secured the away team Man of the Match award. Well done boys on a great team performance. I am extremely proud to be associated with such a great bunch of players.
