      Eastmoor Dragons U10s v Stanley Rangers U10s
      05.12.09
Stanley continued their recent form with an impressive victory away to local rivals Eastmoor Dragons.
After tasting defeat to the Dragons earlier in the season Stanley were in determined mood and started the brighter of the two sides, although there wasn’t a lot to choose between the two sides early on.
Stanley opened the scoring after some good work by the Stanley pack got them into the Dragons' half and allowed Alfie Goddard to send up a ‘bomb’ that Eastmoor defence struggled to cope with. A good chase by Stanley saw the ball come loose and allow Outstanding Effort winner Joe Hall to release Cameron Lees for the opening try, which he converted himself. Eastmoor battled to bring the game level after managing to get round the outside of Stanley defensive line. But the response was immediate as Stanley’s powerhouse prop Owen Trout burst over for a well deserved score, which again he converted himself. Again Eastmoor refused to roll over and levelled the scores with a jinking run from their winger, and that’s how it remained as the teams went in for halftime.
Stanley knew that the first score of the second stanza would be crucial, and it went to the away side as hooker and Man of Steel winner Ben Green threw a superb pass to scrum half Jake Smith to jink past two Eastmoor defenders and score in front of the posts. Stanley went from strength to strength as their forward pack of Ryan Snowden, Declan Honeymann, Owen Trout and Stephen Gibbs dominated the Dragons for long periods of the game and it was Prop Forward Declan Honeymann who took the game away from Eastmoor with two well deserved scores, one converted by himself and the other by Alfie Goddard.
Stanley stood up to some very physical play from Eastmoor in the second half and continued to dominate in the forwards and lay a great platform for their backs to try and play in difficult conditions. Top Tackler Liam Brady again impressed as did an improving Liam Sawyer and Karsten Wilson who showed no fear when trying to move the ball near the opposition line. Stephen Gibbs and Owen Trout worked tirelessly in defence through the middle as did Lewis Pearson, Jake Smith, Ben Green and Cameron Lees in the wider areas. Brett Miller showed good hands in a couple of passing moves as Stanley looked to work the ball late in the tackle count.
Stanley produced their best team performance of the season and this was recognised with the Man of the Match award being shared between the whole team, and the Away Team Man of the Match going to Declan Honeymann. It’s nice to see the boys putting what they do in training out onto the field of play, well done guys!
