Stanley Rangers Under 10’s continued their recent impressive form with a hard fought draw away to a very tough and resilient Heworth outfit.
Stanley started slowly and missed a couple of tackles early doors which allowed Heworth to score from their opening set, but Stanley replied straight away after good work from forwards Owen Trout and Ryan Snowden got Stanley good field position which was capitalised on by stand off Cameron Lees. Cameron ran at the line and then fed a neat pass to scrum half Jake Smith who sidestepped the last man to score near the corner. Stanley defensive efforts improved but after looking like they had weathered the storm a great grubber kick from Heworth’s impressive stand off saw them touch down to regain the lead, but again Stanley replied quickly with Alfie Goddard showing a great step and turn of speed to cross the whitewash for the first of his two scores.
Prop forward Declan Honeymann then powered over to put Rangers in the lead but again Heworth refused to bow down and brought the scores to within 2 points at halftime. Stanley regained the lead when Outstanding Effort winner Owen Trout held off several defenders to power over and score under the sticks. But again Heworth replied managing to outpace the Stanley defence to score out wide.
Both teams continued to try and pass the ball in an attempt to stretch each others defensive line, and it was Stanley that succeeded first with Alfie Goddard jinking his way over for his second score. Stanley nearly wrapped the game up when home and away team Man Of The Match Jake Smith ran from inside his own half beating several defenders only for him to be tackled into touch with the line at his mercy.
And even though Top Tackler Stephen Gibbs was at his awesome best in defence and ably backed up by the impressive Man Of Steel Ben Green, Heworth again managed to score late on to earn a draw, which on reflection was probably the right outcome as neither team deserved to lose. There were also impressive performances from Brett Miller, Liam Brady, Cameron Lees and Alfie Goddard

Tries: Owen Trout, Declan Honeymann, Alfie Goddard 2, Jake Smith.
