Stanningley U10s v Stanley Rangers U10s
03.10.09
Stanley fell to their first defeat of the season after a spirited display in awful conditions away to Stanningley. Both teams had to contend with a nearly gale force wind which lead to a game of ‘one up’ rugby and very little passing on display.
Stanley opened the scoring when Man of the Match Alfie Goddard threw a lovely dummy which wrong footed the Stanningley defence and allowed him to nip over the whitewash and open the scoring. Alfie converted his own score, but Stanningley soon hit back when two missed tackles allowed Stanningley to go over in the corner. Stanley struggled to get into any sort of rhythm and their usual attacking flair and defensive resilience was sadly missing. They did however regain the lead twice more when Alfie Goddard registered his fourth hatrick in four games, his last try coming on the back of great work from Man of Steel Ryan Snowden. But both times defensive lapses allowed Stanningley to level the scores.
Early in the second half Stanningley went in front for the first time, it was now that Stanley showed some resilience when they levelled the scores through Declan Honeyman. Unfortunately the game went away from Stanley late on as Stanningley ran in two late tries to secure a hard fought victory. Top tackler Ben Green worked tirelessly as usual and there were good performances from Brett Miller, Liam Brady and newcomer Karsten Wilson. Cameron Lees scooped the outstanding effort award when he chased a breaking Stanningley player 50 yards to make a try saving tackle. Ryan Snowden also secured the away team Man of the Match after an impressive display in which he constantly made himself available to make the ‘hard yards’ in difficult conditions.
Tries: Alfie Goddard (3), Declan Honeyman.
Kicks: Alfie Goddard, Cameron Lees, Declan Honeyman.
