     Drighlington U11s v Stanley Rangers Under 11s
  19.09.09
Drighlington raced to a 16 points to nil lead after some determined running, and vigorous defence, that left the Stanley boys shell-shocked.

Stanley however showed some true grit in this game, and proved that the game is not over till the fat lady sings!

The first try was a superb effort all round. Tom Sale, our scrum half, pitched a cross field bomb to perfection, and dynamic fullback Thomas Sowerby took it on the full for our first touchdown, and the start of this remarkable fight back. The Stanley forwards started to make bigger inroads into the Drig defence, and Tommy Gant, Matthew Sowerby, and Reece Matysiak all running hard, with Reece being the stand out player. Reece was taking 2 and 3 defenders with him, and hit a great ball from Levi Johnson to run 50 metres to score under the post, and boy did the big lad motor!

The defence at this point was getting stronger, with Sean Smith leading the defensive effort, with Mathew Sowerby,  Levi Johnson, Matthew Hobson and Thomas Sowerby all on 20 tackles.

The next try scored was great!  After a flowing movement we found ourselves on the Drig line, and quick thinking Tom Sale pounced over from dummy half to score and brought us level with less than ten minutes to play.

The next score to take the lead for the first time was simply sensational, Thomas Sowerby tagged onto a loose ball 35 metres out and beat 6 defenders to the line to score, showing a wonderful display of stepping and fending.

The final, and the try that ended the game for Drigh was again scored by Thomas Sowerby. Thomas ran onto a wide ball in the middle of the field in our half, Thomas blasted through 2 defenders, and sprinted a full half, outpacing several chasers to score - a fantastic way to win a game.

Kicks: Levi Johnson (2) Mathew Hobson (1) Sean Smith (1).

Levi was also awarded the Top Tackler for the week's previous game against East Leeds, and considering he missed 10 minutes of that game he did very, very well.

The next game is against Normanton Knights, and boy are we looking foward to that one. They have some new players, and so do we, so this could be a real bone crunching fast flowing encounter
