Stanley Rangers Under 11s v Normanton Knights U11s
26.09.09
Stanley cruised to victory with a superb display of rugby league. Normanton looked the bigger sized team, but on the day, pace and skill came out on top.
Thomas Sowerby opened up the scoring with a 40 yard effort that was converted by Levi Johnson. Normanton fought back with some rugged defence and hard running, but the Stanley defence held out for most part. Normanton took advantage of some ill-disciplined Stanley play, and after 2 back to back penalties, Normanton crashed over to score, and go in at half time only 2 points behind.
The second half was a different story and although the Stanley side did not have the power of Normanton they were much quicker across the park. Thomas Sowerby, Mathew Hobson, Levi Johnson, and Tom Sale used pace and vision on the back of some fantastic go foward produced by big Reece Matysiak. Reece was outstanding for the second week running and caused havoc in the Normanton defence.
The Stanley defence shaped up well, and with Jordan O'Niell producing his best defensive effort this season we looked solid.
The second half scoring was shared by Matty Hobson who bagged 2 scores - one was a fantastic effort running through a gap that Levi Johnson created with a pin-point pass some 30 yards out.
The next score got the biggest cheer of the day with Mathew "dumptruck" Sowerby crashing over and beating 3 Normanton defenders to the line, Mathew was awarded the Magic Moment for his efforts.
Tom Sale late in the game intercepted a pass, and unselfishly passed to Matty Hobson who raced 20 yards to touch down.
Mathew Hobson and Tom Sowerby were awarded the Man of the Match and Opposition joint Man of the Match awards on the day. Reece and Jordan can't have been far behind, with Levi looking the player to watch.
Stanley visit Eastmoor next week in another local derby game.
