Stanley Rangers U12s 14 v Dewsbury Celtic U12s 8
18.04.09
The 2009 FAM Yorkshire Junior League Division One Under 12s Champions, Stanley Rangers, won the the league with a hard fought victory over Dewsbury Celtic.
The scoreline of 14 points to 8 did not do Stanley justice, as through the game we bombed three good try scoring chances with Celtic scoring their two tries from their two chances.
The Rangers looked like a side from a lower age group compared with the big physical presence of Celtic, who came to this title decider with an army of supporters and their entire Under 17s in support.
The whole team gave 100% and we the coaches can't ask for anything more than that, but the performance was way below our best, with kicks not chased, try scoring kicks not attempted to be caught, and a ball dropped over the line. The defensive effort from Celtic was very strong and determined, but we held our nerve under pressure to record a well deserved victory.
The season was a long and hard one for us, with a limited squad, and with Jacob Ware missing exactly half of the league games and our captain Callum Sampson also missing 5 games we had to battle this year to top the league.
I can name many players this week, but to single out anyone would be unfair to the rest who all gave their best on the day.
The league table does not lie, we have conceded less than any other team, scored considerably more points than anyone else, and fully deserve the title.
I am looking forward to next year, we are looking to recruit some players, and we need to stay focussed and sharp if we are to hold onto this title. I know that Stanningley, Celtic, and Shaw Cross will all be hungry to succeed.
I want to thank all the players this year, all the coaches, and admin, and all the players too. I also want to especially thank the coaches and players from Stanningley, Shaw Cross, and Cas Panthers who this year we have had a great rapport with and enjoyed every fixture, even the draw and defeat at Stanningley.
I was more over the moon this week at seeing players and very good players from other teams come to watch and congratulate our boys on their win. That would not happen in any other sport. Well done boys - you know who you are.
Our next fixture is Crigglestone in the Wakefield Cup Semi final next Thursday. (7th May).
