Stanley Rangers went through to the second round of the Wakefield Cup with a very hard fixture against a vastly improved Westgate side, who looked more organised, and structured than ever before.

The rangers in the early stages showed some great attacking shape, and some wonderful ball movement with Matty English and Jonny Holmes ripping through the defence off some quality balls from Daniel Sowerby.  The forwards all to a man showed the way forward so to speak with a tremendous effort in the most shocking conditions you can play in. The mud seemed to have no real effect on ball handling with very few errors from both sides in these conditions.

The backs did well with the ball when they had it, and a sensational try was scored from left touch line to the right corner when a move was started by Danny Sowerby, through Ben Hardaker, to Max Jowitt and finished off beautifully by Sam walker to bag the try of the season in the most unlikely of conditions.

Danny produced a fantastic game in attack with some super ball handling scoring and creating with precision kicking. Matty English and Jonny Holmes again in top form, with Jonny producing a season's best performance in defence and attack. The solo effort of Alex Hobson was also a try of note, with him jinking through several defenders and going an incredible 50 metres to score from a kick return, outstanding to say the least. Kieran Holt came on in the second Half and showed what he can do by ripping the Westgate defence apart out wide, and running with power down the right wings.

The Christmas break is on us, and we look forward to the new year.
