Wildcats first home game of the season saw them entertain a strong physical Featherstone Lions outfit. In very hot conditions both teams tested each other out from the first whistle and once both teams had got used to the new rules, they both settled down to play some entertaining rugby.
Featherstone opened the scoring with a well worked try down Stanley's left hand side, the conversion was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 0-4 favouring the visitors. Stanley came back into the game after quick thinking from captain Dominic Dorgan with a very good individual effort. Jacob Unwin successfully added the conversion leaving the score at, 6-4 in favour of the hosts.
Second half started much in the same way as the first, but this time Stanley struck first with an opportunist try from acting half Jack Pemberton. On this occasion the conversion was missed, leaving the score at Stanley10 Featherstone 4. Featherstone came back into the game on the back of a couple of dubious refereeing decisions and scored a converted try, making the score equal at 10 points each. Both teams could have snatched a win towards the end of the game, but the honours were shared, as the final score remaining at 10-10. Just on full time, 3 players were involved in a flare up resulting in 2 of them receiving 5 minutes in the sin bin, one being from Stanley, Lewis Gower, and the other from Featherstone, with a Featherstone player also receiving a red card. A draw was probably a fair result on reflection as it would have been harsh should either team had lost after the amount of effort being put in from both teams.
