After a previous postponement the Wildcats finally got the go ahead to play their rivals from Bradford on a very cold day on what can only be described as a very heavy pitch. It was the Wildcats that started the game the livelier with a blistering start and a try from captain Ben Fisher in typical barnstorming fashion from the first set of 6 tackles in the game. This was with the Wildcats only having 12 men due to late arrivals. It wasn't long before the Wildcats struck again this time with a solo effort from centre Dom Dorgan. The Wildcats were now firmly on top in both attack and defence and made good use of the slope to score another try, this time from stand off Sam Mawson. This was the end of the scoring in the first half and a fantastic defensive effort saw the Wildcats keep their hosts pointless. There were 2 conversions from Jacob Unwin to add to the 3 tries.
The second half was expected to be a much tougher affair with the Wildcats defending against the slope but another fantastic defensive effort, even beter than the first half, saw the Wildcats maintain control of the proceedings. Substitue and debutant Frank Mulhern set the Wildcats on their way with a try and the successful conversion saw the score increase in favour of the visitors to 22-0. A fantastic flowing move from the Wildcats right saw an outstanding off load from second from Oliver Stockton put the supporting Mark Bainbridge in for a well deserved score.Sam Mawson was the next scorer after another flowing passing move saw him score wide on the Wibsey left. Straight from the kick off Frank Mulhern ghosted through the Wibsey defence for an outstanding solo effort and with a successful conversion this left the score at 36-0 in favour of the Wildcats. Again there were 2 further conversions from Jacob Unwin in the second half.
Overall a very comfortable and satisfying win for the Wildcats with a strong combination of fast flowing passing rugby and an awesome defensive effort to keep the hosts pointless for the whole game. Wibsey did keep going until the end but the second half defensive effort meant that Wibsey never threatened the Wildcats line.
A difficult game to pick the award winners this week with the following players all in outstanding form Joe Sampson, Sam Mawson, Ben Fisher, Joe Smith, Jacob Unwin, Jack Taylor and on debut Frank Mulhern:
