York Acorn U12s 18 v Stanley Wildcats U12s 4
01.11.08
This fixture saw a change to the schedule and saw the Wildcats on the road yet again, the 5th game out of 6, and put them up against a spirited and lively York Acorn. Unfortunately the Wildcats saved their worst performance since inception for this game as they lacked any enthusiasm, commitment and were very very slow off the mark. A slow start is the usual case for the Wildcats and again this was the case as Acorn opened the scoring early in the first half. This was a lead they were not to lose throughout the game. York had been dropped down from division 2 and they proved to be more than a match for the Wildcats during a convincing first half although Tom Shippen did register the only try of the half for Stanley after chasing a good kick and beating the cover to touch down. The conversion was unsuccessful. With York scoring 3 further tries and 1 conversion this left the Wildcats with too much to do in the second half. Half time score was 18-4 to York.
The second half was much the same as the first with Acorn scoring tries at will and 2 more increased their lead to 26-4 before the Wildcats were on the board for the second and last time with a very good solo effort from hooker Jack Pemberton. Acorn ended the game with the final try and but for some poor goal kicking they would have hit the 40 points mark. A day and a game for the Wildcats to forget all in all and they will now have to produce much better performances and results to achieve their aim of promotion to division 2 and with a game against local rivals Featherstone Lions they will have the chance to put things right.
No awards were given this week by the coaches or the parents.
