Stanley Rangers were very disappointed with their performance against Celtic after gifting them a 16 point start after only 5 minutes of play. The Celtic pack dominated the early mid field battles, and found going down hill a pleasure. The Stanley side did not complete one set in the first half. At half time the score ended up 22 to 6.
Thomas Sewerby scored the next try out wide beating the winger and full back to the corner, the conversion was missed. The very next set Stanley made their way down field and superb back rower Nick Fowler created some real magic with the play of the day. Nick smashed his way through the Celtic defence and in the process of going down flicked one of the best off loads you will see at this level to Thomas Sowerby who took the ball in mid air to score. Stanley missed the conversion.
The next try was a short range effort from hooker Charlie Holland who scored another 4 pointer from dummy half.
Stanley built some pressure again, and even after several other stoppages for injured Celtic players Nick drove the centre field after top work from Correy Eaton and Jordan O'Niell tipped on to barnstorming front rower Tommy Gant. Tommy crashed over the line under the posts to score a superb individual effort.
Lewis Fletcher continued to impress with his outstanding running and defending, with the whole back line playing very well. The forwards on the day lost the battle up front, and it showed, but we can go up 5 gears from this performance and hope to hit some form next week against Featherstone Lions.
The Opposition Man of the Match went to Nick Fowler with Magic Moment going to Harry Hirst. Stanley Man of the Match went to Nick Fowler.
