Stanley Rangers Under 13s had a very hard first game against Shaw Cross and had to dig very deep at the end to pull off a win which was in the last 15 minutes.
The Rangers had Will Hudson, Sam Mawson, Tom Broom, and Joe Foster out, and during the first half lost to injury Matty English (elbow) Kieran Holt (back) Ben hardaker (leg) and jack Donnegan (head) leaving only 12 players on the field, and with this many players missing and injured I am more pleased than ever that they did not give in as it looked like being the case after half time.
At the start of the game Sowerby at scrum half opened up the scoring with a darting run, and created what looked like 4 try scoring chances that the Rangers squandered.
Kieran Holt at his best in the first half caused meyhem with his monster defence, and outstanding running off Danny. Kieran bagged the Opposition Man of the Match and when you consider he missed 20 minutes that was amazing.
Callum Sampson, our captain, was again fantastic and unfortunatley is missing the next 2 games. Callum led by example, and IMHO was the difference at the end of the game. He organised and directed the team which led to our late domination and eventual win. Callum was awarded the Coaches Man of the Match.
Tyler Lockwood produced his best game for over a year. He ran hard and defended with aggression, and proved that he can be a top back rower if he puts his mind to it. Tyler drew the biggest cheer of the day with a superb solo try. Well done Tyler!
Tom McGretton played in his preferred position of stand off and looked comfortable and confident in atttack, distributing and directing the play, and finally being rewarded with a score.
This weeks Magic Moment winner for a fantastic try-saving tackle went to Max Jowitt. Well done Max.
The next game up is against high-flying outfit Stanningley at home, and with an injury list as long as ours we are looking for a super-human effort from the boys.
