Stanley Rangers U13s 26 v Shaw Cross Sharks U13s 12
05.12.09
Stanley played a very determined Shaw Cross side today in a very even contest for most parts. Stanley had a very difficult week, with no less than 5 players pulling out due to illness and injury, leaving us with 11 fit players for this game. This however has no reflection on Shaw Cross who went in to the half time break the better side but behind on the score sheet 16 to 12 after playing some wonderful open rugby league.
The star of the show was Aidan Kaye with Sam Otterwell pushing him close for opposition man of the match.
Stanley however in the second half came out fighting and with the memory of having almost no possession in the first half had down hill behind them. Stanley built on the scores by Holt and Cornell with longer periods of possession and patience.
The front row as always looked great, Callum Sampson again leading from the front, and Jonny Holmes working his socks off.
Kieran Holt, injured and not well, also excelled out in the centre, and along with Ben Hardaker struck up a link with Daniel Sowerby which proved to be the winning combo on the day.
Ben was awesome all game in his front on defence, and showed massive amounts of determination in attack, and was awarded the Stanley Man of the Match award for his endeavours. Well done ben.
Alex Hobson on the left wing also had a superb game, his kick returns and scooting was top draw, and for what was his season's best performance he was chosen by Shaw Cross as the Opposition Man of the Match, again a big well done to Alex.
Daniel Sowerby in the second half showed his vast array of running and passing skills, creating the first 2 second half tries with pin-point passing, and was awarded the Magic Moment for these game changing plays, well done Daniel.
Sam Mawson who after relinquishing his Leeds ticket for today played superbly on the wing, and we were very pleased he chose to play, as with Max "the boot" Jowitt who was superb again this week, and proved his worth with some wonderful place kicks.
The boys did very well today and we were all in agreement that this was our season's best second half performance, against a side who showed us for the best part in the first half how to play the game.
The whole team played well, and again it was played in the best of spirits, and that is the most important part. I know that these games are the ones we all look to play in, and Chris and Darren can be proud of the boys for today's game.
