Stanningley U13s 34 v Stanley Rangers U13s 14
19.09.09
Stanley Rangers recorded a rare defeat to a very well-drilled and disciplined Stanningley side. This game was as always played in the very best of spirits, where rugby was the sole thing to focus on.
Stanley unbelievebly with 10 minutes to play were leading 14 points to 10, after Daniel Sowerby, Kieran Holt, and Callum Upton scored. Daniel scored the first try, and dropped Kieran Holt in for the second. Kieran and Daniel teamed up with a perfect turn up to create some space for Callum to score out wide. Throughout the game and in the first half Stanley exploited some holes down the opposition right hand side, but did not convert these into scores.
Kieran was outstanding throughout, and earned an Opposition Man of the Match. Ben Cornell again showed his maturity, with some superb runs, and passing from dummy half, and gained a well deserved home man of the match.
Daniel had a very good game, with boot, and hands, as did Jonny Holmes with his tireless work rate. Matty English also gave 100% along with Ben Hardaker playing out of position. Dom "Jesus" Jones again for only his second week at fullback looked great, well done Dom!
With the scores at 16 to 10 to Stanningley, Daniel Sowerby, Kieran Holt, Jonny Holmes, and Matty English all came off due to injuries, and that was the final nail in our coffin.
Stanningley led by their talisman captain Jordan Lilley took the game by the scruff of the neck, and scored 4 back to back tries in a 9-minute period, and the players left on the field could do nothing to stem the flow.
I was very pleased for our boys, they gave their all, and this game was always going to be hard with Callum Sampson, Will Hudson, Tom Broom, and Alex Keaney missing, but when the other players had to leave the game was then over. I hope that in 2 weeks time we may have our 5 injured players back, and this week's game has not taken its toll with the rest.
Stanningley showed a very good level of awareness throughout the game, their Hooker looked dangerous throughout, along with their number 8, and red haired centre. Jordan their skipper was as always in the thick of it, and proved again what a very good leader, and outstanding player he is. I am sure Mark and his coaching staff will be very pleased with this win. I am also looking foward to the return at Stanningley.
This week we go to Lock Lane, and may have 2 of the sick list back - let's hope so - and with Dewsbury Celtic in 2 weeks we are looking to have a fully fit squad.
