Stanley Rangers U14s 54 v Newsome Panthers U14s 4
YAJRL quarter final Challenge Cup
13.03.11
Stanley blasted Newsome off the park with a scintillating display of organised team rugby league, and not a hint of individual or selfish play. The shape and structure on display today was very good, and the team, win or lose, are looking more like a quality rugby league side every week. This age group is now all about roles and responsibilities and these players now need to understand why they are playing the game and what their position requires.
The outside backs of Daly, Day, Holt and Jones looked sharp and focused and with McGretton and Sowerby controlling the mid field we looked very balanced.
The pack this week had a superb day out - Sampson now showing his best ever form, complemented by Holmes and Cornell up front, and supported by Stone, Hardaker and Hudson in the back row. Nathan Stone was superb this week, with a fantastic display of running, supporting, and defending, and his presence lifts the boys around him.
Try scorers on the day were Stone (3), Sowerby (2), Holt 1, Holmes 1, Daly (2) and Matty English with a belter and his first try of the season.
Brandon French made a massive impact this week coming on, and running hard, and defending well, and showed the same form against Skirlaugh. Max was very good at the back as always, looking the complete full back.
The big downer on this game was the late in the game loss of Stand off Tom McGretton with a ankle injury. Tom as been in top form, and we all wish him a very speedy recovery.
The next game is Drighlington away in the league, they have beaten Celtic at Celtic this week, and will be in a determined mood.
