Stanley as normal drew top Hull outfit West Hull away from home in the first round of the BARLA National Cup after a bye in the preliminary round.

Stanley started the stronger of the two sides dominating both possession and field position and almost scored in the opening two sets. Tom McGretton started a quick move down the right side, with Dom Jones beating three defenders to score a wonderful opener.

The whole team took a lift from this and pushed the Hull side very hard. Stanley, clearly the fittest of the two teams, led at the interval after some quality work by the front row of Sampson, Cornell and Holmes.

In the second half Stanley attacked down the left side with Sowerby and Holt linking to open up the Hull defence which they did at will. The final score of 24 - 12 was no indication of the Stanley dominance during this game.

The boys came away relieved that they had overcome the threat of an early round exit.
