Stanley Rangers U14s 28 v Westgate Wolves U14s 10
Wakefield & District Cup Semi Final
26.04.11

Stanley with only Hallum Day and Brandon French being the only players missing and after a tough month won this derby cup game in emphatic style. The Westgate side looked bigger and stronger, with power and pace, but the style of play and shape and structure from Stanley was superb. Stanley play a very good brand of rugby and did not look to one player to win the game. Those days are well and truly over - it's about shape and structure, and players knowing their roles, and we showed just that.

The Stanley side bombed several scoring chances early on with two big overlaps not used, and a dropped ball over the line, that could have seen us wrapping the game up in the first half. The opposition only looked like scoring after we gave away two penalties near our own line, apart from that, they never threatened our line or looked like they could break our very good defence.

Lee Alderson played his first game for almost 6 months and not only scored, but laid on a 4 pointer for Dom Jones too. A very big welcome back to Lee who is one of the best players at this age group.

The whole performance was very pleasing - the lads stuck to the task, with some top efforts from Nathan Stone, Keiran Holt, Callum Sampson and Jonny Holmes, with Donnegan back to his best,  top kicking from Tom Mac and Max Jowitt, some great plays from Daniel Sowerby and distribution from Ben Cornell. Ben Hardaker had his best game for 2 seasons, and was a monster in both attack and defence, and played like a front rower with pace. Well done Ben. Max scored a now familiar try from a reversed kick from Daniel, Jonny the try machine looked to everyone that he had scored another, but was denied, Matty came on after an injury and made a huge impact, as did Dom Jones who took a knock early on in the game when he was in top form, but ran it off and came back on the park.

The team now face Walton in the final, and we are hoping to perform to this standard which we will need due to their very good recent form in both the league and cup.
