Stanley travelled to Birstall for the first league game of the new season and showed their quality with a dominant performance.
Matty Hobson scored inside the first 2 minutes to set the tone for the game, as he darted through the defence and rounded the full back to score. From the restart Stanley made progress down field, this time Hobson turning provider as he laid a short ball to Seb Dimmock, for him to crash over. Harry Hirst converted to make the score 0 -10.
Birstall however got in the act against the run of play, with some good handling allowing them to go over in the corner. Stanley replied by heading down field, Charlie Holland crashing over from dummy half. This was quickly followed by a Ryan Strafford try, as he stepped passed defenders and ran clear to score in the corner. Birstall then capitalised on some poor Stanley defence to bring the score to 8 - 20.
Hirst then capped a fine performance with a try of his own, taking three defenders with him as he charged over the line. He converted his own try to increase the lead to 8 - 26.
Jordan O'Neill then made a great break from his own half, running 50 metres before off loading to the supporting Lewis Fletcher, for him to dive over. Hirst again successfull with the conversion to increase the lead. Half time score 8 - 32.
The second half continued to be one way traffic, with a flowing move resulting in Brandon Warrior linking into the line to score, following good work by Reiss Butterworth and Hobson.
Tommy Gant then scored as he hit the ball at pace out wide and beat the defence to touch down. Connor Hampson then got in on the act as he fooled three defenders with a great dummy to run clear and dive over the line. Stanley continued to progress up field with ease, aided by the strong running of Mark Cocker and Hampson. This time a neat kick from Butterworth allowed Tom Dowing to collect the ball and go in at the corner. From the restart Stanley moved up field earning a repeat set after a clever kick by Hobson. From the drop out Stanley moved near the line and some quick hands from Butterworth found Hobson in space who kicked to the corner for Tom Downing to collect for his second try of the game. Unfortunately Stanley could not convert their second half tries, but a dominant performance resulted in a final score of 8 - 52.
Man of the Match for Stanley was Connor Hampson, with Mark Cocker receiving the Opposition's award.
