Headingley Hawks U16s 36 v Stanley Rangers U16s 37
.03.10
A second half comeback from 4-18 was too big a gap to close for Stanley although they closed the score to 16-22 away against Headingley Hawks.
Stanley defended 3 sets of six in the opening 5 minutes of play, failing to keep hold of the ball every time before Headingley's pressure finally told on theSstanley defensive line - 6-0 to the hosts. Further pressure from the Hawks with a high bomb which full back Arthur misjudged bounced kindly for a further score and kick to make it 12-0. Glover reduced the arrears with a try in the corner but failed with the kick (12-4). A third try from the Hawks extended the lead to 18-4 at the break.
Rangers started brightly after the break seeming to play their expansive game moving the ball out wide with Hartness and Mcgretton pulling the strings, and the forward line making inroads in the Hawks 20 metre area. Grimmett powered over to reduce the deficit to 18-10.The Hawks however pulled away with a score in the corner making it 22-10, but Rangers kept plugging away, scoring again to reduce the score to 22-16, but failure to keep hold of the ball near the end when having the opportunities to come away with a result was the downfall of Rangers' display.
Hartness, Moffitt, Fitzsimmons and star man Josh Scott were the pick of the bunch.
