Stanley secured an impressive victory away to a strong Lock Lane outfit who before today had only lost one game this season.
Stanley were determined to continue there unbeaten start to the season, and started the game well. Stanley managed to strike first with a well executed training ground move paying off, Cameron Lees releasing the ball for Jake Smith to place a kick in behind for Alfie Goddard to run onto and open the scoring. Stanley frustrated Lock Lane with some great defensive work, and it paid off when a loose pass was intercepted by Man of the Match Alfie Goddard, who then ran fully 50 yards to cross the whitewash for his and Stanley’s second try, which was converted by Jake Smith. Lock Lane then came back into the game with a quick reply, going over in the corner, and then went on to score again with a brilliant off load leading to there second try.
With Stanley having no replacements available half time was a welcome breather for the boys, and the short rest obviously worked as Stanley came out firing again in the second half, immediately putting pressure on the Lock Lane defence which lead to Jake Smith running in two excellent tries, and Alfie Goddard completing his hatrick. Lock Lane responded well with Man of Steel Stephen Gibbs and Top Tackler Ben Green making some crunching tackles to keep them at bay. Lock Lane did manage another score after outpacing a tiring Stanley defence to go over in the corner, but this only served to spur Stanley on for the closing stages, and Owen Trout sealed a good win with a strong run for the last try of the game.
The award for Outstanding Effort went to Jordan Steadman for a great one on one tackle. Well done to all the boys for a great result against a good team!!
