Whinmoor Warriors U9s v Stanley Rangers U9s
21.03.09
Stanley Rangers Under 9s overcame a very resilient Whinmoor side in what was a very bruising and fiery encounter.
Both sides looked to dominate the game in the early stages with Whinmoor breaking the deadlock, only for Stanley to reply shortly after. There was some strong and determined running from both sides, which was matched with some equally impressive tackling, again by both teams. Stanley continue to improve as a team and as individuals, this was more than evident with the displays of Man Of Steel Lewis Pearson and the winner of the outstanding effort Joe Hall, which was awarded for a lung busting 40 yard run which included breaking three tackles. Lewis's improvement was there for all to see, as he showed so much more confidence and determination in both attack and defence. The Man of The Match had to go to Owen Trout, he was involved in everything good about Stanley, and finished up with five tries!
The top tackler award was a much harder decision, with several players in contention. Liam Brady was excellent, making two fantastic tackles close to his own line, but in the end it was split between Brett Miller, who on debut looked like he'd been tackling props all his life!, and Kyle Holdroyd who worked tirelessly from the marker position and in the second row.
Stanley continue to improve, combining attacking flair with resolute defending, whilst also showing good improvement in their individual games, but their unbeaten run will be under serious pressure next week when they go away to Eastmoor Dragons, good luck boys!
Tries: Owen Trout (5), Jake Smith, Kyle Holdroyd, Declan Honeyman.
Kicks: Owen Trout, Jake Smith, Kyle Holdroyd, Alfie Goddard, Liam Brady, Stephen Gibbs.
